Homestead Exemption
If you are a permanent resident living in your home, you may be able to save money on your property taxes. Information on the homestead exemption is below:

In order to be eligible for the homestead exemption, which reduces the assessed value of your home by up to $25,000, resulting in tax savings, you must be a permanent resident, and you must apply by March 1. To get the exemption, you may visit the office at 360 N. Beaumnt Avenue in Kissimmee and bring the following information:

To get to the office, make a right turn onto 192 from Celebration Avenue, go a little over eight miles, make a right onto John Young Parkway, make a left into Sumner St. and then another left onto Beaumont Avenue. The phone number of the office is 407-343-3700, and the hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If you are renting out your home, you cannot claim this exemption. You do not have to be a U.S. citizen to be eligible for the exemption. If you are not, you will need a green card and a declaration of domicile when you apply. If your spouse is deceased, you are also eligible for an additional exemption. You will need to bring your spouse's death certificate when you apply.
